Writing

Late sunlight reflected on dark, gently rippled water

This space grew out of a need to step out of the stream now and then – above all from the constant flow of social media and the deluge of news that comes with it. So much seems to rise to the surface as if by magic, sets off instant reactions and is gone again before we know it. Who knows when, or whether, it will surface once more.

Here, I want to stay with things a little longer. To give a name to what unsettles me, to follow thoughts without knowing from the outset where they might lead. To get some things off my chest by writing them down. To find a quiet place for thinking and reflection, and perhaps simply to hold on to what is occupying me right now.

Of course, all this could accumulate over time in a journal: filled notebooks or scribbled sheets of paper, marked with traces of ink, kept in a box alongside letters from another time. Or, more likely, bits and bytes lying dormant in a folder on my laptop, perhaps never to see the light of day again, or only on rare occasions. And yet, perhaps something in what occupies my thoughts might also be of interest, or even inspiring, to someone else – to people who have simply happened upon this place, or who have found their way here by following a hunch or a thought.

What’s Alive?

What feels alive right now? What moves me? What draws my attention? What wants to be looked at, thought about, or perhaps simply noticed?

Nothing stays as it is. Everything is in motion, always changing. Don’t push the river, it flows by itself – a saying from the early days of Gestalt therapy, associated with Fritz Perls. Perhaps it is also about not wanting to push everything along, but letting things take their course.

On those who step into the same rivers, ever different waters flow.
